Death of EVAN T. HARDIN at his home near Cambridge, Neb., June 15 1888 in the 65th year of his age. Former citizen of Fairfield and has relatives here – GEORGE CRAINE and others. He was a citizen here as early as 1844, and enlisted in this place for the Mexican War, but the regiment was not taken out of the state. He was a soldier in the 29th Iowa Vol. Inf. Reg. and served until the close of the war…About a year ago he visited Fairfield and said then it would be his last visit. He was one of a family of ten children, and only one of them now remains.
Hardin, Evan Taylor (I7)

2 Adair County Kentucky was not established until December 1801, from parts of Green County Kentucky. Hardin, Asa (I15)

3 Elmer Evan Hardin was born on his father's homestead in East County, Red Willow, Nebraska 5 miles south west of Cambridge, Nebraska. Latitude: 40°14'27.73"N Longitude: 100°13'40.79"W Hardin, Elmer Evan (I1)

4 Many researchers give Elizabeth’s maiden name as “Payne” I find no primary proof her name was Payne. The name Elizabeth is given in Stephen’s Will. Stephen had a younger brother, Thomas Harding who did marry Sarah Payne. Sarah Payne did have a sister named Elizabeth Payne and in her father’s, Will she is referred to as Elizabeth Hardin. Records indicate Elizabeth Hardin was however married to a John Hardin. Elizabeth (I31)

6 The birth location for Stephen is in question. Looking for proof of birth location. Believe it to be either in Elizabethtown, Union County, New Jersey or Colchester, New London, Connecticut, USA. I believe it to be New Jersey.

There was another Stephen Harding born and died very close to our Stephen born in New London, Connecticut and died in Exeter, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. Many researchers interchange the data between the two. Our Stephen Harding did not die in Pennsylvania.

I find no evidence Stephen's middle name was Fisher.
Harding, Stephen (I30)

7 This land patent was granted 3 years after Evan's death. It is however probable he was farming prior to his death. Hardin, Evan Taylor (I7)
