John August Danielson Bio
John immigrated to the US at age 14, settling in Jefferson County, Iowa.
He married Eunice Beldon on May 10, 1852, in Fairfield, Iowa. They had
five children during their marriage. John moved to Council Bluffs, for a
brief period and then to Calhoun, IA in 1855.
In the Civil War,
John was commissioned an officer in Company H, (2nd lieutenant) in Iowa
15th Infantry Regiment on December 13, 1861. Promoted to Full Captain on
June 8, 1862. He was severely wounded in the hip on April 6, at the
battle of Shiloh in Tennessee and mustered out on September 13, 1862. He
was rescued, carried to a ravine, and later helped onto a horse by
private J. E. Rice. He died on October 7, 1888, in Calhoun, Iowa, at the
age of 59, and was buried there.
